Zion Williamson’s physical shape, in short, is always a question mark at the start of the New Orleans Pelicans’ season.
However, the coach and trainer, Jasper Bibbs is doing specific work with the young star. He sees, as a result, the power forward in the best physical shape of his career.
“He’s in fantastic shape. He’s been committed to putting in the work day in and day out. I’m really proud of what he’s been able to accomplish. He’s a better athlete now than he’s Ever been.” Bibbs asid.
“His bodi composition has improved at an extremely high level. That’s all I’ll say.” Bibbs added.
Williamson’s athleticism has never been in question behind the scenes in the NBA. His combination of physical strength and athleticism, by the way, was seen as something unprecedented in theleague’s history.
Durability, however, has proven to be an issue in recent years. Bibbs, therefore, explains that part of his plan was dedicated to allowing the player to better deal with the “power”.
“Zion has incredible speed and, above all, the ability to change direction without sacrificing it. This is related to body control, in principle.” Bibbs said.
“He has rare body control for someone his height. Our work, then, moved towards being able to deal with the force it creates when it jumps and runs.” he added.
Training with such a focus on vacation is not the norm among NBA players, but for Williamson, it’s a necessity. The star, after all, did not enter the court last season due to a foot injury.
Williamson signed a pre-extension with the Pelicans, but the contract calls for weight-management clauses.
“Nobody can improve body control and athleticism atZion’s age, for example, without a lot of work, and his commitment, above all, was incredible. He trained twice a day, starting at five in the morning, every day.” Bibbs said.
