Elena Rybakina is facing yet another great campaign in a Grand Slam tournament.
The Kazakh is already in the round of 16 of the Australian Open after defeating Iga Swiatek in an aggressive way and winning Wimbledon without securing ranking points.
“I don’t know if I’ll ever become number one in the world, for now I have to improve many aspects of my tennis.” Rybakina said.
“There are great players, they are all really tough, so I see that I have to improve a lot.
“If I keep playing like this, with this consistency, I can become number one in the world, I can beat anyone, but I have to find that consistency.” Rybakina added.
Rybakina will become one of the favourites to win the Australian Open and now plays the winner of the Coco Gauff vs Jelena Ostapenko match in the quarter-finals.
“I’m really happy with my performance, it was a really hard battle, but I was prepared. Fortunately, it all went my way. There are many players who, when facing the number one in the world, think they have nothing to lose.” Rybakina said.
“I was clear that I had to be very aggressive from the first ball because she is a great player and defends herself very well. I tried continuously attacking from the first game and it worked.” Rybakina added.
Rybakina has won three WTA singles titles, and finished runner-up in six more finals. She achieved her biggest result at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.
“It is clear that I have faced a lot of face in the last twelve months, especially after Wimbledon. It has helped me to do a lot of preparation with the team these last few months.” Rybakina said.
“I lost in Adelaide, I was upset because I felt like I was playing well but, even so, having a good preparation doesn’t mean you’ll win everything.
“I knew that in the next two weeks there would come a time when I would feel good on the court and start winning.” she added.
