Yamaha Managing Director Lin Jarvis has listed Jorge Martin as possible teammate for Fabio Quartararo in 2024 season.
Yamaha, who have the contract with Franco Morbidelli finishing at the end of 2023. Martin is now looking around at the possibilities for 2024, a switch to Yamaha could just be a realistic option.
Martin still has a Ducati contract until the end of the 2023 season. He will have access to the latest factory material within Pramac Racing, after which the Bologna manufacturer will have a unilateral option on him.
The Spaniard could also ride for Ducati in 2024, but if there were another offer from, a factory team, Martin could also make a switch to another manufacturer.
“We listened to other manufacturers and then I decided to stay with Ducati for another year. The same goes for the future.” Martin said.
“I would like to stay with Ducati, I would also like to join the factory team, that is my dream. But I will certainly listen to other manufacturers.” Martin added.
Martin had a good 2022 MotoGP season, securing no less than five pole positions and four podium finishes, but his scant 152 World Championship points and ninth-place finish in the overall standings also show that he wasn’t always confined to the seat on his Pramac Racing Ducati.
Quartararo has penned a two-year deal with Monster Energy Yamaha for another two years. The new agreement will saw the Frenchman remain with Yamaha through the end of 2024.
While Morbidelli’s 42 points scored this year is the worst result for a factory Yamaha rider in the MotoGP era. If he wants to be a Yamaha factory ridet in 2024, the Italian will have to make a big step in the first Grand Prix weekends of 2023.
