Team USA Forward Charlie McAvoy Will Not Be Available for Their Matchup Against Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off Final

The Boston Bruins has revealed that Charlie McAvoy remains hospitalised in Boston for treatment while exiting Team USA from their upcoming Canadian match in the 4 Nations Face-Off final.

A statement from the Boston Bruins mentioned they placed their star defenseman under hospital care at Massachusetts General Hospital for upper-body tests resulting from his tournament-related injury.

The Boston Globe uncovered the news following the Team USA defeat against Sweden at TD Garden during Monday night’s game.

Team USA coach Mike Sullivan reported that McAvoy received treatment due to his “upper-body injury” thus leading to his lineup absence.

“It’s tough. Charlie, he’s a terrific hockey player and he’s a big part of this team. When you lose players of that caliber they’re not easy to replace.” Sullivan said.

Boston Bruins Head Team Physician Dr. Peter Asnis is performing current examinations on McAvoy for evaluation purposes and has determined he will not compete in the upcoming championship game at the Garden.

No official updates regarding McAvoy’s condition have been provided since he received treatment for an infection resulting from a minor injury according to hockey writer Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff.

“All I will tell you is he’s been admitted to the hospital, he’s getting very good care and when the timing is right I’m sure the Bruins will handle it appropriately,” Sullivan said.

“I’m disappointed for him because first and foremost he’s a great kid and he’s a terrific hockey player. Under all the circumstances he’s in good spirits.” he added.

Team USA faces a tough challenge heading into their upcoming championship contest at the Garden Thursday night because several players have injury issues.

During the second frame of Monday’s match Brady Tkachuk needed to leave the game because of an injury affecting his lower body according to Coach Sullivan.

Forward Auston Matthews sat out from playing against Sweden during the match. The players are projected to compete against Canada in the upcoming game.
