Roy Keane Slams Erik ten Hag for Leaving Cristiano Ronaldo on the Bench in Manchester Derby

Roy Keane has slammed Erik ten Hag for his ‘disrespectful’ use of Cristiano Ronaldo in Manchester derby on Sunday.

The former Red Devils skipper said the club should have let the Portuguese forward leave last summer.

Meanwhile United manager Ten Hag insisted he left Ronaldo on the bench during the side’s 6-3 defeat to Manchester City ‘out of respect’.

“I think Manchester United are showing disrespect to Ronaldo. I think he should have been let go before the closing of the window.” Keane said.

“Okay, you’re the manager, you need options but you don’t hold onto Ronaldo to sit on the bench. He’s one of the greatest players ever.”

“He’s played him in one or two European games. It’s just going to get uglier as the season goes on. I think United have shown nothing but disrespect to Ronaldo.” Keane added.

Ronaldo was ignored in what seemed like to be the biggest thing ever in the games between the two teams, as the scorer came to be 6-1, but he is displeased with his performance on Sunday.

“They should have let Ronaldo go when the opportunity came. He did have options, I know that for a fact.” Keane said.

“But to hold onto Ronaldo to sit on the bench, I think is ridiculous for a player of his stature.”

“So what if you’re 4-0 down. You look at his goal record, as good a chance of anyone of putting it in the back of the net.” Keane added.

The game, of the ninth round of the Premier League, keeps the champions City in the footsteps of the leader Arsenal: 21 points for the Londoners, 20 for the Pep Guardiola side.

United, on the other hand, interrupts a series of four wins and remains in sixth place, nine points behind City.
