Brazilian striker Neymar has revealed that he feels he was wrong to leave Barcelona in 2017.
Neymar joined Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee of €222 million, but he has since failed to achieve the same level of success that he enjoyed at the Camp Nou.
In an interview with ESPN Brasil, Neymar admitted that he made a mistake in leaving Barcelona.
“I was wrong when I left Barcelona. I thought it was the best decision for me at the time,” Neymar said.
“But it turned out to be a mistake. I’m not happy at PSG and I want to go back to Barcelona.” Neymar added.
Neymar’s admission is a major blow to PSG, who have invested heavily in the player. The club’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, has repeatedly insisted that Neymar is not for sale, but the player’s comments suggest that he is determined to leave.
Neymar has joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal from PSG in a two-year deal. The move ends Neymar’s six-year stay at PSG, where he won four Ligue 1 titles and three Coupe de France trophies.
Neymar’s desire to return to Barcelona is understandable. He won two La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey titles, and a Champions League title with the club.
He also formed a devastating attacking trio with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, who were known as the ‘MSN”.
However, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona will be able to re-sign Neymar. The club is in a difficult financial situation and would likely need to sell some of its other players in order to fund a deal.
Even if Barcelona is able to afford Neymar, it is not clear whether the player would be welcomed back by the club’s fans.
Some fans were upset when Neymar left Barcelona in 2017, and they may be hesitant to forgive him.
Despite the challenges, Neymar’s desire to return to Barcelona is a sign that he regrets his decision to leave the club in 2017.
It remains to be seen whether he will be able to make his return to Barcelona, but his comments are a major boost for Blaugrana fans.
