Michael Owen Says Son Heung-Min Could Sign Bigger Team than Tottenham Hotspur

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen mocked comments criticising Son Heung-min, saying that the Korean striker could go to any team bigger than Tottenham Hotspur.

Son scored twice in Tottenham’s 3-2 win over Frankfurt in the fourth round of Group D of the Champions League on the evening of October 12.

Thanks to this result, Tottenham are at the top of the table with seven points, one point ahead of Sporting and Marseille.

“A few weeks ago a lot of people told Son not to play. It was ridiculous, because he was the best player in the team. At that time, I said Son was Tottenham’s most valuable player, based on age, caste and everything else.” Owen said.

Son had a difficult start to the season, as he ran out of time until the eighth round of the Premier League.

The 30-year-old striker form has improved since scoring a hat-trick against Leicester on September 17. The double against Frankfurt is also Son’s first goal in the Champions League this season, after four consecutive starts.

Son has played 13 games this season, coming on only once as a substitute in the win over Leicester City. This statistic proves the trust that coach Antonio Conte has in Son, despite opinions advising him to let his players reserve more.

Another former England striker, Peter Crouch, agrees with Conte’s view of using players. He thinks Son’s second goal is the perfect volley that not all strikers have the skill to execute.

The former Liverpool striker insisted that Tottenham’s attack would be as dangerous as last season, when Son shone next to Harry Kane

“Son is a top striker, there’s no doubt about that. Everybody has a difficult time and Son is no exception. Now he has overcome it, with two sharp goals.” Crouch said.

Son was the top scorer in the Premier League last season with 23 goals. He and Kane contributed a total of 40 goals in the English Premier League and 51 goals in all competitions for Tottenham.
