Liverpool Legend Jamie Carragher Reacts to Chelsea Sacking Thomas Tuchel

Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher, spoke about the shock of Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea and his belief that the German should have been given more time at the club.

“It was a shock because I just thought the new regime at Chelsea would be different to Roman Abramovich.” Carragher said.

“I said a few days ago if Abramovich was still in charge, you would fear for Thomas Tuchel because of what happened in the past with Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, Carlo Ancelotti, lots of great managers.

“But I did feel as if it might have been a different type of regime, so it’s a huge shock.” Carragher added.

It’s official, Tuchel is no longer the Chelsea manager. The Blues issued a very long statement via their website on Wednesday morning after their 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb.

“Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Thomas Tuchel.” Chelsea said in a statement.

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.

“Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.” Chelsea added.

Tuchel was appointed in Januari 2021 and went on to guide the Blues to the Champions League title in his very first season.

The 49-year-old manager, who was under contract until 2024, was sacked after a low-key start to the season with the Blues, a club that spent heavily on pre-season signings, with nearly €300m invested in players such as Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Chelsea, who face Fulham on Saturday in the Premier League, will have to change course quickly, before the decisive match against RB Salzburg next Wednesday in the Champions League.
