Joao Cancelo, who joined Bayern Munich on loan in January after falling out of favour at Manchester City, was quizzed on his relationship with Pep Guardiola.
However, he has denied at claims he fell out with Guardiola at City as a “complete lie”.
“[Guardiola] found a way to play, after the World Cup, when he started playing with an inside winger, where I also played, and he liked what he saw with Rico [Lewis] and Nathan [Ake].” Cancelo said.
“I respected his decision because I have to and this is a team of great footballers.”
“But I think a player is always a bit selfish. Any player wants to feel important, wants to play and anyone who says otherwise is lying.”
“A competitive player, like me, who aspires to win titles, just wants to play. It’s like Pep said, I need to play to be happy.”
“So we talked, it was a conversation, not a discussion, and we decided that the best thing would be for me to leave this market. An opportunity I couldn’t refuse. It was by mutual agreement.” Cancelo added.
Cancelo has only played more than 45 minutes for City since December 28 and was benched for the entirety of five games.
“If City didn’t want to, they wouldn’t let me leave, because I had a contract. I’m very professional, I’ve always given my face for all the clubs.” Cancelo said.
“I have a difficult personality, yes, but I have never, at any time, disrespected team-mates or coaches.” he added.
The Portuguese international full-back will be in the Bavaros, it seems, until the next summer market, when he will return to Etihad.
Cancelo is considered one of the best in his position and has versatility as one of his main characteristics, as he can play both on the right and on the left.
