In Malaysia, horse racing was introduced during British rule. Till date, horse racing Malaysia remains a favourite time pass and a popular gambling activity. There are three race courses in Malaysia, the Penang Turf Club, Perak Turf Club and Selangor Turf Club. Horse Racing is legal only within these turf clubs and is a legal form of gambling.  The racing is ruled by the Rules of the Malayan racing association and attracts thousands of race lovers and betters from all over the world. As already mentioned, horse racing was introduced as a sport to Malaysia by the British traders who came to the country as early as 1800.

Thus, Malaysia has a very rich history of horse racing and is still carrying the legacy forward. It has also become a part of the Malaysian culture. Many countries have seen a decline in the horse racing activities post World War 2. But Malaysia still continues this form of sport and is still an expanding industry.
